The last few weeks in ESI

We have been working really hard this last month. April seemed to come and go in a blur of activity. We worked on our Earth Day projects and are well under way in our Science unit on bugs. At the end of this month we will be visiting Ralph Klein Park to complete our unit with a 'hands on' experiment. The experts from Parks Canada will guide us as we pond scoop, observe and record the creatures of the Alberta Wetlands. Students will have the opportunity to build a bug and look at all the body parts of the creatures found, to determine which are inscets and which are not.  We are hoping for sunny weather.

We have also been working very hard on our tangram puzzles in math. We have been creating many images using the pieces of this ancient puzzle from China. A Tangram is a geometric puzzle which originated in China, and is made from three basic geometric shapes. Tangrams are used to teach geometric rules and can be a challenge and fun math exercise. Students are enjoying copying puzzles and are also trying to create their own.
